My latest FAQ topic is all about engagement photo shoots, or pre-wedding shoots if you’d prefer. Engagement shoots are photo shoots that take place in the weeks or months ahead of your wedding. It’s a nice opportunity for you to get used to being in front of the camera, and to get an idea of how you will feel on the day.
Do I have to have an engagement shoot?
No of course not! I don’t include these as standard as they are not everyone’s cup of tea. What I would say though, if you’re a little nervous about being in from of the camera on your wedding day, they can be a great way of breaking the ice and getting used to how it will work.
Where can I have my engagement shoot?
This is generally up to you. I suggest picking a location special to you – this could be a favourite park or beauty spot, or even (subject to date availability) your wedding venue itself. I have done shoots in gardens, parks and even the venue where my couples met.
A note on arranging shoots on private property: I am happy to check with the venue you choose that they allow photoshoots on their premises. Some do not allow it, others charge a fee or request written permission before allowing photoshoots. In cases where permission cannot be granted, we would have to find an alternative venue. You are responsible for any fees incurred, but would be discussed with yourselves first.
When should I book my engagement for?
Normally a few months or weeks before your wedding is fine. I am busier during the spring and summer months due to weddings taking over most weekends. During wedding season, I do not take Saturday bookings for engagement shoots and mid-week dates are preferred. We can discuss availability in advance to find a date that works for all of us.
The beauty of an engagement shoot is, if we have planned an outdoor shoot and the weather is horrendous, we can always rearrange to a different day. So there is some flexibility.
What do I get?
The engagement shoot normally lasts around one hour. You will receive at your high resolution images on a USB memory stick, plus I place your photographs in a password protected online gallery too, where you can order prints directly. If you’d prefer, you can arrange your own printing via the files on the USB memory stick.
It’s always nice to have a set of pro photos to compliment your wedding photos. Some clients decide to display some of their engagement photos at their wedding or even make a guest book with some of the photos.
How much do they cost?
I offer engagement shoots for an extra £150 within the Yorkshire area. If you would like to venture a little further, I would have to take into consideration the cost of fuel and potentially accommodation.
