Merchant Adventurers’ Hall, York | Natalie and Jack’s wedding

I am really getting into the swing of wedding season 2018 at the moment, so I’m not blogging as often as I would normally. However, I thought I would take a little time out from shooting and editing to reminisce about my first wedding of the year which took place at the historic Merchant Adventurers’ Hall in York back in January.

The couple

You may remember my lovely bride and groom Natalie and Jack from their engagement shoot last spring. I first met them at a wedding show, where they were the lucky winners of an engagement photo shoot competition I was running. So I was very excited when they decided to book me for their wedding photography.

They both met when they were working as guides at York Castle Museum, dressing as Victorians, cooking medieval food and playing with 18th century weaponry – how fun!

The proposal

Their wedding proposal ended up being a mutual one. Natalie had spent some time trying to ‘subtly’ get Jack’s ring size, but he took this as a hint that he might want to think about proposing. Therefore on a romantic walk on the North York Moors one day, Natalie pulled out a ring for Jack and Jack reciprocated with an engagement ring for her. Great minds hey?

The Venue

Natalie and Jack chose the Merchants Adventurers’ Hall due to the beauty and the history of the place. I think it’s fabulous, the entrance is almost hidden from sight from the bustling shops and cafes on Fossgate. The grade I listed building dates back to 1357 and is one of the largest buildings of its kind and date in Britain.

Natalie used to work next door, so has been a fan of the venue for some time. They both wanted somewhere with its own personality, that had a strong feeling of ‘York’. Both being historians it was the perfect choice – plus the food is amazing!

I arrived a little while before the ceremony began and stayed through until just after the first dance. As always, my words can never tell the day as well as my photos can, so I will leave you to enjoy just a handful of photos from their day.
