The Red Lion, Burnsall wedding | Emma and Jon

What an absolutely stunning part of the world Burnsall is. Set in Wharfedale in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, the venue for Emma and Jon’s wedding was the stunning 16th century country house The Red Lion, which is a set on the bank of the River Wharfe.

Red Lion Burnsall, wedding. Bride and groom by river

I seem to be spending quite a bit of time in this neck of the woods recently (I had a wedding that way on on Saturday) and I couldn’t be happier about it. I love so close to Leeds city centre, but on the flip side I am only a ten minutes drive from beautiful countryside. It really is the best of both worlds.

The venue

Emma and Jon fell in love with the Red Lion accidentally. They weren’t really looking for a wedding venue, but one day they were out on a summery walk and saw a sign outside that said ‘weddings’. They thought the location was absolutely beautiful and it offered the perfect size venue for their wedding. I couldn’t agree more!

The village Burnsall has a population of just 90 and is one of the few unspoilt spots left in the country. The Red Lion dates back to the 16th century and now is a family run venture since 1991.

The couple

Emma and Jon met online and their first date was at a bar in north Leeds. Jon bet Emma 50p that she would fall in love within 3 dates. I guess Jon won the wager as last August he popped the question whilst at the Edinburgh Fringe. They had gone for dinner at a very fancy restaurant and Jon got down on one knee during dessert. Emma forgot to answer initially but did finally say yes!

The big day

The couple chose the beginning of April for their wedding day. It was one of those early spring days that seem to appear from nowhere. It was only a few weeks since we were enjoying scenes normally found on Christmas cards, but the sun came out to play for Emma, Jon and their guests and we all got to enjoy some much needed vitamin D.

They opted for part day photography coverage, so I met the groom at the venue a little ahead of the ceremony starting and was there for when their guests started to arrive. As always, I will leave you to browse through the photographs of their gorgeous day as they tell a better story than I ever can!
